Now
Big picture
I’m taking time off from college, and I’m incredibly grateful that I could. I’m more connected to myself now than I have in a long time. I’m excited to head back to school for my last two semesters in the fall.
Thinking
I’m thinking about how I can remain connected to the outdoors in my future, starting with a job leading trips this summer.
Learning
I’m learning how to repair and modify my bike. I’m curious about bike touring one day, and this is a great first step. It’s also been great to work with my hands instead of with a computer for a change.
I’m also taking a French class.
Volunteering
I’ve been volunteering around NYC with organizations that address food insecurity.
I recently started a position as a volunteer docent at the Museum of Food and Drink (MOFAD), where I’m helping out with an amazing exhibit on the history of street food in NYC.
Museums
I’ve been trying to take advantage of time off living in NYC to explore the many (many) museums here, often for free through IDNYC or the public library Culture Pass program. It’s amazing how much you can do for free!
Training to work outside
I recently completed my Wilderness First Responder re-certification during a weekend in the Poconos with some fantastic instructors from NOLS.
Where’d this website come from?
I’ve been learning about Astro, which I used to make this website. I started using Doom Emacs to edit my code instead of VS Code, and it’s been fun.
By now I’ve configured it to work similarly to other modern editors, but that configuration is the point. I like using tools that let me look under the hood, change things around, mess them up, and ultimately make them better for me.
This page is inspired by Derek Sivers (nownownow.com). I hope to keep it updated periodically so that, as he suggests, this page can represent what’s going on in my life — not in the manner of social media, which has never really been my thing, but in the way I’d catch up with a friend I hadn’t spoken to in a year.
